Valencia, 11 December 2025 – The Valencian Community strengthens its position as a strategic territory for the energy transition with the development of the region’s first hybrid renewable park, promoted by Iberdrola through its subsidiary Iberenova Promociones. The project will mobilise an investment of €180 million and will combine photovoltaic and wind power generation, optimising the use of natural resources and energy infrastructure.
The initiative integrates the Cofrentes I solar plant, located in the Ayora Valley, with a hybrid wind farm situated in the province of Albacete. In municipalities bordering the Valencian Community. This configuration will make it possible to harness the Mediterranean nocturnal wind regime, a key competitive advantage of the territory that maximises energy production and reduces the intermittency inherent to renewable sources.
A pioneering project in efficiency and sustainability
The complex will feature 184 MW of photovoltaic capacity and 45 MW of wind power, connected through shared infrastructure including a substation located in the municipality of Ayora. In total, the solar plant will incorporate nearly 400,000 photovoltaic modules. With an estimated annual production of 332,000 MWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 100,000 households.
The investment is distributed between €130 million for the photovoltaic plant and €59 million for the wind installation and its hybridisation. Reflecting a strong commitment to integrated energy models that are more efficient and deliver greater economic and environmental returns.
According to the Valencian Association of Energy Sector Companies (Avaesen), this type of project represents a milestone for the development of the renewable energy sector in the Valencian Community. As it reduces generation unpredictability and accelerates infrastructure amortisation.
Economic impact and local employment
Beyond its energy impact, the project will act as a driver for employment and the local economy. During peak construction phases of the photovoltaic plant, up to 650 jobs are expected to be created. Along with stable employment linked to operation and maintenance activities once the facility becomes operational.
Iberdrola is working in collaboration with local councils to promote training programmes aimed at unemployed people in the area, facilitating their integration into the project’s workforce and strengthening the territorial roots of the investment.
The commissioning of the photovoltaic plant is scheduled for the end of 2026, consolidating the Ayora Valley as a key hub for clean energy generation.
Valencia, a strategic destination for energy investment
The development of this hybrid park takes place in a context of sustained growth in renewable capacity in the Valencian Community. Which has already reached 594 MW of solar power connected to the grid, compared to 485 MW the previous year. This progress has been made possible, in part, thanks to the administrative drive of the Generalitat Valenciana. Which has streamlined the processing of strategic projects after years of delays.
From Invest in Valencia, this project reinforces the attractiveness of the territory. As a destination for investments linked to energy, sustainability and technological innovation. Aligned with European decarbonisation objectives and with a clear positive impact on local economic development.
