Valencia, May 5, 2026 – The facilities of the Valencia Chamber of Commerce hosted the event “Unlocking Valencia’s Health Innovation Ecosystem”. This session, co-organized by Invest in Valencia and HealthTech Community Valencia. Served as a fundamental meeting point for professionals, companies, and institutions focused on the future of health and biotechnology.
The main objective of the day was to make visible the strategic resources and allies available within the city’s healthcare ecosystem, facilitating a space where local talent and international investors could converge.
Through various presentations and round tables, attendees were able to see firsthand how Valencia is positioning itself as a top-tier hub for technological innovation in health.
The meeting not only highlighted the city’s attractiveness for establishing new projects, but also the solid continuous support that companies receive once they land, ensuring their long-term growth through strong public-private collaboration.
Uniting the international and local community
One of the pillars of the event was the presentation of the integrating role of HealthTech Community Valencia. This platform acts as a dedicated English-language forum that manages to bring together expat professionals with local talent, covering multiple technological and healthcare disciplines.
By unifying industry, entrepreneurship, and innovation in one place, the community solves the lack of a centralized forum for the sector in the city. This allows professionals of all stages, from founders to clinical researchers, to propose talks, share challenges, and find strategic partners for their projects.
From the perspective of the institutions, the mission of Invest in Valencia was presented as an official agency created through a public-private initiative to attract and accelerate investment in the city. Its services are structured to guide companies from the discovery phase to softlanding.
However, the event placed special emphasis on the Aftercare phase, demonstrating the city’s commitment to the long-term success of companies. This service offers continuous support to ensure a positive business experience, helping international companies fully integrate and make Valencia their own city.
Validation Phase: From research to practice
The event structured the ecosystem into several critical phases for companies, starting with the validation phase. At this point, institutions like INCLIVA (Biomedical Research Institute) presented their capacity to support clinical trials and precision medicine projects through their extensive scientific and biomarker platforms.
On the other hand, the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV) was highlighted as another indispensable strategic ally in this early stage. Together, these research institutes provide the technological framework and scientific backing necessary for health solutions to prove their viability before reaching the market.
Build Phase: Growth ecosystem
Once validation is complete, healthcare technologies need a suitable environment for the “Build” phase.
During the session, the role of hubs and centers like BioHub and Fisabio was explored in depth, offering the infrastructure and collaborative ecosystem for scientific companies to scale their operations.
Added to this effort is the work of entities like Plug and Play, which bring their expertise in open innovation and venture capital. The intervention of these partners ensures that startups not only develop good science but also structure viable business models ready for commercialization.
Scale Phase and global expansion
To make the definitive leap into international markets, the “Scale” phase is vital for any HealthTech company. The event highlighted the collaboration with major partners such as Charles River Laboratories and Valencia Innovation Capital, fundamental in providing advanced support and expansion facilities.
Likewise, the presence of networks like Big Ban highlighted the importance of connecting these companies with solid funding sources. These players are crucial in advising startups on when and how to start thinking globally from a development and regulatory compliance perspective.
A debate on industry challenges
The day concluded with a dynamic round table and a Q&A session where the real obstacles of the sector were debated.
Experts addressed critical issues such as the most common mistakes founders make when engaging with institutions and how to validate medical needs without a clinical background.
In addition, an intense debate was generated on the priorities of startups with limited resources, discussing the exact moment when they should stop chasing grants to focus on commercial revenue. This final interaction also served to identify what elements are still missing to be developed in the Valencian ecosystem to continue improving.
